The plastic crisis calls for action
During Ekotown at the end of August, Plastic Soup Foundation gave a presentation on the urgent need to drastically reduce our plastic consumption. The numbers speak for themselves: every minute, a garbage truck full of plastic ends up in the ocean. This plastic doesn’t disappear but breaks down into microplastics that pose a serious threat to the environment, our health, and future generations.

About Ekotown
Ekotown is the annual organic food festival by Ekoplaza, held at the Mariënwaerdt Estate. Ekotown is all about connection within the organic supply chain. The festival brings together foodies, passionate farmers, growers, and producers for a day full of flavor, inspiration, and sustainable experiences. Throughout the day, there are engaging workshops, inspiring speakers, and other activities such as yoga in the hay barn.
Single-use plastic: convenience with consequences
Single-use plastic – think of straws, coffee cups, packaging, and bags – is often used for just a few minutes, but lasts for hundreds of years. It’s high time we said goodbye to this throwaway culture.
The good news is that there are plenty of sustainable alternatives. With your choices, you can even encourage companies to produce plastic-free and operate more consciously.

Want more inspiration? Visit a festival or event where plastic-free solutions are the norm. At one such festival, compostable cups were used that visitors could even take home to use as garden compost. Sustainable and practical.
